WHY THIS ANALYSIS?

This book explores American values from Critical Discourse Analysis perspectives. Evidently, it should always be sensitive to talk about values or qualities of a nation, especially of such a powerful nation as The United States of America. On one hand, this is because people are, to some extent, different and what is food for one can be a poison for another. The same can be true about people's "good and bad" values we sometimes judge. On the other hand, people are so similar that they have universally common "good" qualities in most societies. Thus, it will not be a surprise to say, by the end of this analysis, that a typical American shares most of the desired qualities and values of other nations.

Another thing in this book is that the American values are not directly revealed but through the concept of images, and in a textbook language. The search for the values herein starts from very ordinary pages of a popular English language teaching material one can find anywhere in the world.
